ABSTRACT

A film is a product that can potentially be exploited throughout the entire world in a range of media. Before examining the sales sector and specific functions of a sales company, it is important to consider the way that the film business refers to rights and footprints, as these heavily shape sales activity. ‘Territory’ as a definitive term has a variety of uses: it can apply to one country, but it can also be applied as a term of ownership or licensing footprint across a number of territories. For example, it can be applied to describe a range of rights, from worldwide, to a cluster of territories, to just one small country or even state within a country.
