ABSTRACT

The majority of physicians who have not had psychiatric experience still tend to treat the disease rather than the individual who is ill. While it is recognized that emotions influence the function of the different organs, this factor is often slighted in the study and treatment of disease. In the psychosomatic approach both emotional and structural processes are evaluated in the study of bodily functions. When studying the disease process, the physician observes not only the specific organ involved but the reaction of the total, integrated personality.
