ABSTRACT
Against the Kraepelinian attitude in psychiatry, with its grudging admission of psychology to explain the obvious, its explicit denial of the mental determination of symptoms as a whole, and its insistent emphasis on non-mental factors, protests have been appearing with increasing frequency. The chief of these have been in Switzerland and America and both owe their genesis and development mainly to the teachings of Freud.
