ABSTRACT
Forty years ago in The Ecologist magazine journalist Robert Allen wrote a simple and practical guide of do’s and don’ts in order to cut down on waste. The journalist advised recycling, keeping a compost heap, not buying disposable goods, not littering and also addressed issues of leaving heaters, lights and taps switched on unnecessarily, a seemingly familiar list of recommendations that any environmentally conscious citizen could recite today.
