ABSTRACT

The consumers are the main actors of responsible consumption. Today’s consumers, as global citizens, can influence companies and public authorities in various ways. As simple consumers with their purchase practices, as investors, by choosing to invest in companies engaged in environmental protection, and as citizens by electing a government and influencing policies. A significant – and growing – proportion of consumers are deeply concerned about the sets of themes surrounding sustainable development. Consumers are increasingly vigilant in regard to ethical behaviour of businesses. The sole emphasis on the economic result and the race to profits has given way to a new business paradigm. The general public, as citizens and con - sumers, is increasingly interested in businesses strategies in regard to social welfare and environmental protection.
