ABSTRACT
Thomas, 7th Earl of Kildare, died in March 25th 1477, and Gerald his son succeeded, being then about twenty-one years of age. ‘The Great Earl’, ‘Garret More’ as he was called by both Irish and Anglo-Irish, was to be with some vicissitudes the real ruler, the ail-but king, of Ireland till his death in 1513.
