ABSTRACT

In his 2011 book, Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us, Daniel Pink highlights the dissonance between behaviourist thinking and constructivist models of teaching and learning which exists in many schools. He describes this using the computer metaphor of an operating system, arguing that society has similar operating systems which function below the surface level. Perhaps an effective way to move forward is through a willingness to question past practice, its suitability for the future and how change could be implemented in each individual context.
