ABSTRACT

The use of technology in counseling has been apparent in some form or another for the last six decades. In the 1950s, Dr. Joyce Brothers used radio to reach millions of listeners and provide services to those in need (Dr. Joyce Brothers, 2007 ). Interactive video therapy, where client and therapist were connected by television for the counseling session, fi rst began at the University of Nebraska during the same decade (Walker, 2007 ). Telephones have been used for suicide hot lines and 24-hour counseling services, and students and counselor educators have been using audiotape and videotapes in supervision for decades, while more recently webcams have been utilized. In the past decade technological applications for clients and counselors have fl ourished.
