ABSTRACT
During the wet summer of 1816 the talk between the men at the Villa Diodati often turned to science. Byron, Percy Bysshc Shelley and Polidori (possibly the most knowledgeable) were discussing the latest experiments enthusiastically, including Galvani's development of electricity by chemical action, and Erasmus Darwin's observation of the activity of bacteria in dead organic matter.
