ABSTRACT

Under the influence of the outside conditions that form human nature, instincts and capacities grow into an almost countless multitude of habits of thought, feeling and action. On the basis of our many unlearned tendencies, we learn still more numerous acts and ideas. To original equipment is added the store of knowledge and skill which we acquire. How this modification and development of instincts and capacities into the fullness of mental life is brought to pass is the subject of this chapter.
