ABSTRACT
THE YEARS FOLLOWING the violent death of President Kennedy were years where America lost its bearings. These were troubled years. Americans now experienced a succession of failed presidencies. Two Democrats and two Republicans ascended to the high office of president and all four were incapable of getting America back on track. The institution of the presidency and the nation itself was gravely wounded.
