ABSTRACT

ONCE THE FOUNDATION WAS PUT IN PLACE and the new nation launched, the next challenge was to build upon those firm underpinnings and grow the Republic. The new century came with a new Chief Executive who did just that. The presidential election of 1800 was a major turning point in American history. The torch was passed peacefully from the Federalist party of John Adams to the Republican party of Thomas Jefferson. This transfer of power as a consequence of a free election was truly novel on this Earth and a significant moment for the new nation.
