ABSTRACT

In my 35 years as a psychologist specializing in sexual issues, my understanding of—and appreciation for—the tremendous variability among us in how we experience and express our sexualities has grown. I realized early in my career that regarding sex as work or as a performance to be judged was an underlying factor in many of the sexual problems I was seeing. Intimacy-based sex therapy became an antidote to these beliefs. This chapter outlines this model and illustrates it in practice.
