ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses new perspectives on andragogy that have emerged from research and theory in a variety of disciplines. The chapter is organized by the core andragogical principles and examines new thinking that refines and elaborates on each principle. These core principles are (1) the learner’s need to know, (2) self-directed learning (SDL), (3) prior experiences of the learner, (4) readiness to learn, (5) orientation to learning and problem solving, and (6) motivation to learn.
