ABSTRACT
In a carefully controlled series of trials, students on Open University Computing courses were introduced to innovations in teaching and learning. Asynchronous and synchronous tutorials, electronic assignment handling and a variety ofother approaches were meshed with a range of personal styles. The key to success lies in appropriate transformations that build upon the unique opportunities afforded by the new media.
