ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 addressed the implementation stage of the strategic planning

process (SPP), and this chapter discusses the evaluation and control aspects of

it. Once the strategic choice decisions have been made, the strategic plan has

been formulated, and the strategy has been implemented, there is still

a crucial decision needed to ensure long-term success. A strategic evaluation

and control process needs to be decided on and installed so that the

organization can monitor performance and take corrective action if needed.

Strategic evaluation and control needs to be a continuous monitoring process

throughout the formulation and implementation stages of the SPP. This

is necessary so that problems during those two stages can be addressed right

there and then. Strategic evaluation and control is defined as the process

of evaluating strategic plans and monitoring organizational performance so

that actual performance can be compared with desired performance and

corrective action taken if needed.
