ABSTRACT

Those societies that are undergoing fundamental transformation politically

(Newly Emerging Democracies-NED), economically (Newly Emerging

Markets-NEM), and diplomatically (Newly Independent States-NIS) are

crucial cases for strategic management/planning and its challenges of

systematic strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. It is clear that

the capabilities in particular of human and material resources of emerging

‘‘supermarkets,’’ such as Russia at the core of the NIS, China and its

acquisition of Hong Kong, Brazil at the core of South America, and

South Africa at the core of Southern Africa, will engender fierce competition

for market entry by the Triad-namely, the United States, European Union/

Europe, and Japan.
