ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we examine several interesting topics that will help form

the basis for a useful framework in which strategy formulation must be

considered. While some of the terms used may be new in the context of

thinking about corporate strategy, the concepts are probably not. Much

of the popular press and media coverage of business organizations today deal

with several of these issues on a continuing basis. Indeed, as our discussion

will illustrate, business has come under some considerable criticism as a result

of the feeling by many that they have not been given a sufficient amount

of consideration. To varying degrees, these issues cut across a wide area of

stakeholder concerns. Depending on your particular view of how business

ought to be conducted, you may perceive some of these issues to be

controversial. Regardless, though, they are issues that must be addressed

within the context of an organization’s strategic approach.
