ABSTRACT

The science of probability may well have remained a historical curiosity within the field of mathematics that was little known outside casinos and race-tracks if it were not for the fact that probability has proved to be invaluable in fields as varied as psychology, economics, physical science, market research and medicine. In these and other fields, probability offers us a way of analysing chance and allowing for risk so that it can be taken into account whether we are investigating a problem or trying to make a decision.
