ABSTRACT

Several other books do an excellent job of outlining the theory of human resource management for event staff and volunteers, including recruitment,

training, the development of policy manuals and job descriptions, compensation, performance evaluation, and recognition (Goldblatt, 2002; RutherfordSilvers, 2004; Allen et al., 2005; Van Der Wagen and Carlos, 2005). It is not the intention of this book to repeat these explanations but rather to isolate and examine the practical details of managing a real production team before and during an event. In this chapter, we therefore will be dealing with the following topics:

■ Assembling and organizing the production team. ■ Working with the team during the concept and proposal phase. ■ Working with the team during the coordination phase. ■ Working with the team during the execution phase. ■ Health and safety issues.
