ABSTRACT

Note that throughout this section we will be using the terms ‘site’ to refer to an outdoor location and ‘venue’ to refer to an indoor location. To accurately produce an event, a thorough familiarity with the venue or site is required. Gaining this familiarity usually begins as early as the Concept and Proposal Phase of the event when an initial site inspection may take place. Once the event is confirmed, however, there are typically one or more extended visits in which all specific details about the venue or site must be determined and appropriate plans made, usually in conjunction with other key technical resource suppliers. There are three aspects of sites and venues that will be discussed: understanding site and venue management, determining venue capacity, and establishing logistical limitations.
