ABSTRACT

Many people from numerous entirely different fields have tried to define creativity and ended up with just as many definitions. Prior to 1950, minimal psychological research was proffered to creativity. However, since then progress has taken place on four fronts: the cognitive processes involved in the creative act (i.e. how creative people think), the distinctive characteristics of the creative person, the development and manifestation of creativity across an individual’s life span, and the social environments most strongly associated with creative activity. We will be examining cognitive processes in Section 2.2 at length, so will begin by discussing the creative person.
