ABSTRACT
This chapter contains steps, tools, and guidelines for becoming more knowledgeable about various aspects of the HR profession and the trends that impact it. Why is continual learning about your field and the trends that affect it important? First, as one of our interviewees told us, a hallmark of any profession is that its members engage in ongoing learning to stay at the forefront of developments and trends. Second, you are increasing your marketability and value to organizations. And as we noted in Chapter 2, HR is a dynamic, growing field that takes place in ever-changing organizational venues. To not try to keep up with all this by taking an “I know all I need to know about HR” stance spells trouble for your career, even if you have been an HR professional for several decades.
