ABSTRACT

As you saw in the preceding chapter, gaining knowledge of HR functions, issues, and trends in a continuous fashion is necessary for success. That knowledge alone is also insufficient for success. HR takes place in organizations, not in a vacuum or in some secret hiding place. Thus, having knowledge about how organizations function, at their best and worst, is a key component of success throughout your HR career. You may be one of the planet’s renowned authorities on labor law, HR information systems, or 360-degree feedback mechanisms, but if your knowledge of the way organizations work is limited, your vast reservoir of other kinds of knowledge will have very limited applicability.
