ABSTRACT

If interviewees say they have line management experience, how would you set about finding out whether they are telling the truth?

The approach you could start with is to ask more about what it’s like to be a supervisor. If they are vague in their reply, you might put a question like: ‘How do you cope when several members of your team are away at the same time?’ Vague replies will tell you that all is not what it seems. But there’s no point in confrontation or accusation.
