ABSTRACT

All candidates should be able to provide the names of referees who will be able to back up claims of experience and performance. One of these referees should be the person’s present or previous employer. It is important that these companies are approached before the new employee joins. Of course, it has to be done with the permission of the person concerned. Many companies do not contact an interviewee’s present employers until the job has been offered (‘subject to references’). It is foolish not to do it at all, though.
