ABSTRACT
It is false to assume that communication invariably occurs every time words are spoken. The average person never uses more than a fraction of the approximately 550,000 words in an unabridged English dictionary, yet many of the words that are used have various meanings. With this in mind, it is unlikely that people hearing the words will always think of the same meaning the speaker intended.
