ABSTRACT

This four-stage structure is designed for smaller projects that a first line manager is likely to lead. Larger projects may need a more sophisticated project management framework, such as PRINCE 2. PRINCE stands for Projects in Controlled Environments and was developed by the UK government for managing government IT projects management. The updated version (PRINCE 2) is now used to manage all types of projects in government and outside. Many large-scale projects require the use of PRINCE 2 as a standard for all contractors, and you would need to undertake specific training to learn how to do this. However, the four-stage model you learn here will give you a grounding in the basics of managing smaller projects.
