ABSTRACT

By a constitution we mean an agreed set of principles and rules by which an organization is run. Constitutional texts are thus a sub-type of legal or quasilegal text, and include all kinds of constitutions, ranging from those of international organizations and states to those of sports and social clubs. They also include communiques, statements, etc. which have the general form of constitutions, as described below. Constitutional texts therefore offer an accessible introduction to some of the more general problems of legal translation.
