ABSTRACT

In the article “Weaving Spirituality into Organizational Life,” Frederick Craigie (1998) described our concern and our vision. He states:

A great deal of research and writing over the past two decades attest to the link between spirituality and health. The answer to the question “Does spirituality make a difference?” is clearly yes. It remains a challenge, however, even in organizations with germane mission statements and chaplaincy programs, to weave spirituality finely into the fabric of clinical care and organizational life. How can we operationalize spirituality and make it an integral part of the work and the workplace, of health care organizations? In other words, how can we think of spirituality not only as a clinical issue, but also as a vital organizational component of good clinical care? (p. 25)

To describe our experience, we begin with the minutes of our first pastoral care vision team meeting convened by the authors of this report who were designated as cochairs by hospital administration.
