ABSTRACT

Changes in the way business is transacted have been occurring due to the phenomenal growth of the Internet, World Wide Web and mobile communications. There is still much change and disruption to come, with many traditional mechanisms of doing business – even products and services – set to disappear. For many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) it will be a case of ‘adapt or die’. Evidence or an analogy of that scenario may be found in the decline in sales of CD singles alongside the equally rapid rise in the growth of downloading tunes: the music distribution industry was shaken to its core. The message is that facilities managers must stay on top of the implications of the ever-changing Information and Communication technology market.
