ABSTRACT

Philosophy Philosophers use reasoning, not empirical research, to theorize about the meaning of life and all human belief systems. But the nature and scope of philosophy are subject to influence by changing societal values and scientific discoveries. People who contemplate the meaning of life generally fall into two categories: those who adopt religious or spiritual meanings, and those who search elsewhere, inside their own mind and value sets. Philosophy is concerned with the nature of religion and spiritualism, but does not embrace faith or divine revelation, only reasoning (Figure 4.1).
