ABSTRACT

Over the past several decades, the practice of pharmacy has undergone tremendous change. The profession is slowly evolving from the traditional, product-oriented profession depicted by characters such as Mr. Gower, the hapless druggist in the Frank Capra classic It’s a Wonderful Life, to a service-oriented profession in which the cognitive services provided by the pharmacist, both to patients and to other members of the healthcare team, are as important as the drug product he or she dispenses.
