ABSTRACT
Society in the developed world is built on the assumption that energy is both freely available and relatively cheap. However, there are environmental costs associated with the continued use of fossil fuels and these are causing a reappraisal of the way in which energy is used. This chapter investigates the global use of energy and its impact on the environment.
