ABSTRACT

The words of Moses Mintz of Hamburg can easily read as a current description of the ideal pulpit rabbi. My Ph.D. on “The Pulpit Rabbi as Symbolic Exemplar” might have been thrown out as not an original piece of research had the advisors to my Ph.D. been fluent in the Jewish tradition. The tradition does say a great deal about the Shaliach Tzibbur from whom the pulpit

rabbi is a direct descendant. Almost all the research in the work that I have done on symbolic exemplarhood has been itself exemplified in Moses Mintz of Hamburg’s words.
