ABSTRACT

In their basic form, there are two types of competitive advantage: cost advantage and differentiation advantage. Whilst the former achieves advantage by charging a lower price in comparison with the competition, for products with the equivalent benefits, differentiation advantage requires the company to create a unique benefit that justifies a higher price in the eyes of the consumer (Porter, 1998a).
