ABSTRACT
Introduction – what is adventure tourism? There has been a growth in the interest of consumers in adventurous pursuits as part of a holiday. But what is adventure tourism? Swarbrooke et al. (2003) identified that there is no single characteristic that sums up the nature of adventure. They did however, identify certain characteristics or qualities that are associated with adventure tourism, and these are shown in Exhibit 15.1.
