ABSTRACT

This herb is the dried root of Panax quin-quefolius Linn, of the family Araliaceae. It grows naturally on the slopes of ravines and shady, well-drained areas in hardwood forests in North America, from Quebec to Manitoba, and from Maine and Minnesota southward to the mountains of Georgia, Arkansas, and Louisiana. It is harvested in autumn, cleaned, and dried after removal of the rootlets. Today, American ginseng is mostly grown on ginseng farms, particularly in the state of Wisconsin. It is also cultivated in northern China (Jiang Su New Medical College, 1977; Hou, 1975). https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9780203050040/86743b54-459f-4502-a9f1-33f21b13726a/content/figpg145_001_B.jpg" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
