ABSTRACT
The Danakil, or Afar as they prefer to be called, inhabit the lowlands of north-east Ethiopia within the triangle formed by joining the towns of Awash Station, Massawa and Djibouti (TFAI) 1 . Traditionally they subsist as pastoralists, depending almost totally on milk from their herds of cows, camels, goats and sheep.
