ABSTRACT

You should have considered implications from the employment and marketing side. For

example, the increasing numbers of working wives is filling the gap left by declining numbers

of school-leavers. (Women represented 46 per cent of the workforce in 2006 and with immigra

tion contributed the majority of employment growth). This allows flexible staffing using part-time

hours but demands changes in personnel policy as a result. Working wives alter the times of

peak shopping hours and increase the demand for convenience and frozen foods.
