ABSTRACT

Other essays have looked at how the architect and patron have worked together over time and territory, to provide the conditions necessary for the creation of architecture. The aim of the following two chapters is to look at how the effect of two or more architects coming together, to form an association of like-minded persons, has impacted upon this relationship and whether the development of architecture as a profession has helped or hindered architecture and the practice of architecture. This chapter will look at why and how architects came together and how they used their collective position to influence the social and political environment in which they operated.
