ABSTRACT
We begin this chapter with the history of football in China and why FIFA
considers China the creator of modern football. We then discuss football’s
development in the twentieth century and the political situation that
impacted it. Then we examine the participants, their role in the sport, and
the league structure. This chapter includes a table that summarizes the
teams in the CSL. The problems and challenges that face the league and
international football, although not unique to China, are also discussed.
