ABSTRACT

In most organizations with problems of project control, it has been found necessary on many projects to replace straightforward time-only analysis with resource allocation techniques. Resource allocation is used here to cover any network technique which considers resources. A resource is a physical variable, such as labour, space, equipment, material, or finance, the use of which may impose limits on the freedom of a project over time. The need for consideration of resources is most pressing when there are conflicting demands for the same limited quantity and type of resource which may be satisfied in a number of ways; each way may have a profound effect on the overall timing of a project.
