ABSTRACT

Planning permission is required for development; the meaning of development was explained in the preceding two chapters. Although an actual application must be made to the local planning authority for planning permission for most forms of development, there are a number of classes of development of a minor nature for which planning permission is automatically granted in the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995 (in this chapt er, referr ed to as the GPD O: reproduce d as Appendi x B) ; the GPD O has been amended from time to time. In most cases this permitted development can be carried out without any further express consent of, or notice to, the local planning authority: see section 60 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
