ABSTRACT

CREAM requires a thorough understanding of the performance of an organization’s

assets – measured both internally and externally, in comparison with other organi-

zations in the same sector.

In this chapter we aim to explore the practical side of benchmarking and real

estate performance measurement. We look at how both can be used to identify

problems in a corporate or occupier portfolio, compare performance both internally

and externally, and support strategic business decision making. We also evaluate

a number of published benchmarks, which examine the use of space, occupancy

costs and service charge costs. In this chapter we focus mainly on quantitative

benchmarks; we examine qual itative measur es in Ca se Study 1: Brunt wood.
