ABSTRACT

South Korea (hereafter referred to as ‘Korea’), officially Republic of Korea (ROK), is 99,313 sq. km (38,345 sq miles) with a population of 48.2 million and reported a gross national income (GNI) per capita of US$12,020 in 2003 (World Bank, 2003). Korea is divided into 9 provinces and 7 independent metropolitan areas, with 77 cities and 88 counties. Mountains cover 70% of Korea’s land mass with beautiful scenery, making it one of the most mountainous regions in the world.
