ABSTRACT

Ann Mennonno teaches in a multiage second/third grade classroom in a public school located in downtown Indianapolis. Because children had questions, Ann decided to do a literature study around the topic of immigration. She specifi cally looked for books that contained family histories and reasons why various groups of people immigrated. Despite all of the recent fi nger pointing and name-calling regarding controversial topics like hiring practices, immigrants, illegal immigrants, and Mexicans, she wanted the students to understand that this was not a new issue. Th ey too, more than likely, were the descendants of immigrants.
