ABSTRACT

By now, everyone knows that the VCR is a technology that allows for great flexibility in viewing. This is not only true in terms of content (enabling people to watch what they want to watch) and time (enabling people to watch when they want to), but also in terms of form. There already exists a small (but growing) literature on how and why VCR users “zip,” or fast-forward through video content. This is a chapter on why they go backwards. Over, and over again.
