After thinking about your position, he was unconvinced; skeptical charitably describes his state of mind. With considerable trepidation, you then considered reframing your argument or, more likely, thinking about its logic/coherence/accuracy and delaying, until after due consideration, your next attempt at running it by "The Perfesser."
