ABSTRACT

In the United States, network news on television had its roots in the Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. (EST) time period. As news programming expanded, Monday to Friday early evening and Monday to Friday early morning were the two dominant day periods on the news scene for more than 25 years. More recently, however, there has been a significant shift in the distribution of news on television, with additional programmes now being broadcast in previously unscheduled late night and very early morning time periods.
